Child Safety Standards

Last updated October 12, 2026

FOB (joinfob.com), made by FOB Social Inc., Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

FOB is a friends and dating app for adults who are new to Canada. It is for people aged 18 and over only. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) of any kind. This page explains, in plain language, what we do to keep children off FOB and how we respond when something goes wrong.

1. FOB is 18+ only

  • Every account must confirm a full date of birth before it can be seen by others, swipe, match, join groups or send messages. Accounts that have not given a date of birth stay hidden.
  • If a date of birth shows the person is under 18, the account is blocked at once. It cannot be unlocked by entering a different date, and the attempt is logged for our safety team to review.
  • Our Terms of Service require users to be 18 or older. Both app stores list FOB as 18+ (Apple "18+"; on Google Play, "Restrict Minor Access" is turned on so that accounts Google knows to be under 18 cannot find or install the app).
  • If you believe someone on FOB is under 18, report the profile in the app or email hello@joinfob.com. We remove suspected minors first and ask questions afterwards. A removed account can appeal by sending proof of age to hello@joinfob.com; we never keep copies of ID documents.

2. What is not allowed on FOB

We prohibit, and will remove and report, any content or behaviour that sexualizes, exploits or endangers a minor. This includes:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM): any photo, video, drawing, text or audio that shows or describes a person under 18 in a sexual way, including AI-generated or edited material and "self-generated" images.
  • Sexual messages, requests, offers or role-play involving a minor, or that present an adult as a minor in a sexual way.
  • Grooming: building trust with a minor to sexualize, exploit or meet them.
  • Sextortion: threatening to share intimate images to get money, more images or anything else.
  • Trafficking, arranging to meet a minor for sexual purposes, or advertising any of these services.
  • Sharing links, codes or instructions for finding CSAM anywhere else.
  • Helping anyone under 18 create or use a FOB account.

This list applies to profiles, photos, bios, the FOB Forum, events, group chats, private messages and anything sent through FOB. Our Terms of Service also cover it.

3. Report or block in one tap

  • Every profile, chat, group, Forum post and event has a menu with "Report" and "Block". Reporting takes one tap plus a reason; blocking is one tap and is immediate.
  • When you report a conversation we keep a copy of the recent messages as evidence, even if you then block or unmatch, so the other person cannot erase it.
  • You do not need to leave the app or have an account in good standing to report. Anyone, including people who do not use FOB, can also report by email to hello@joinfob.com.
  • Reports are confidential. The person you report is not told who reported them.

4. How we review, and how fast

  • Profile photos are screened before they appear. Messages are checked by automatic filters for harmful content. Reported content is sent to a human reviewer.
  • We review reports as quickly as we can. Reports involving a child's safety, threats or illegal content are treated as urgent: the reported account is hidden right away while we review it, and child sexual abuse material is reported to Cybertip.ca and the police.
  • Confirmed CSAM is removed from the service as soon as we know about it. We do not wait for the review of the rest of the report.
  • We do not notify an account that its content was reported for CSAE, and we do not return removed material to anyone.

5. Reporting to Cybertip.ca and the police

FOB Social Inc. is a Canadian company and follows Canadian law:

  • If we are told of, or find, material on FOB that may be child pornography (CSAM), we report it to Cybertip.ca, Canada's national tipline, run by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection and designated under the federal Act respecting the mandatory reporting of Internet child pornography by persons who provide an Internet service (S.C. 2011, c. 4).
  • If we have reasonable grounds to believe that FOB is being used to commit a child pornography offence, we notify police (Victoria Police / RCMP, or the force Cybertip.ca directs us to) as soon as possible and preserve the related data for at least 21 days as the Act requires, longer if a court or police ask.
  • We cooperate with lawful requests from Canadian and foreign law enforcement and with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where US users or US-hosted material are involved.
  • We keep records of every CSAE report, what we removed, when, and whom we told, as the law requires, and share them only with the authorities.

We are not required to monitor every message, and we do not read private chats as a matter of course. We act on reports, on our automatic filters, and on anything else that comes to our attention.

6. Account termination

  • Any account that posts CSAM, sexualizes a minor, grooms, or attempts sextortion is terminated permanently on the first confirmed offence. There is no warning and no appeal for CSAE offences.
  • We also terminate accounts that help minors join FOB, or that turn out to belong to someone under 18.
  • Terminated accounts are blocked from re-registering (email, device and payment identifiers), and we keep the minimum record needed to enforce the ban and to meet legal reporting obligations.
